Ever explained a campaign result to your manager and watched their eyes glaze over? Or had a brilliant piece of work go completely unnoticed because no one above you understood what it took to make it happen? If you've ever felt like you're doing great marketing in a company that doesn't quite get marketing, this one's for you.
This session is part of our ongoing Marketing Career Clinic series, helping marketers (like you!) navigate the trickier parts of career growth. Hosted by Olivia Hanlon, this session brings together three experienced marketers who've each built careers navigating exactly this challenge - working with managers and stakeholders who don't speak marketing fluently, and figuring out how to get their work seen, valued, and rewarded anyway.
Meet the guests:
Eleshea Williams is the Social Media Specialist at Amnesty International, the world's largest human rights organisation. With over five years in impact marketing, she's created social content for causes ranging from Oxfam to UNHRC, and previously served as Social Media Officer at UNICEF UK. She's a LinkedIn Top Voice and public speaker, passionate about making the social impact sector more accessible to marketers starting out.
Simran Kahlon Head of Marketing at Deloitte, with over a decade of experience spanning B2B and B2C. Having previously held a global digital marketing role at HSBC, she combines strategic thinking with hands-on expertise — from SEO to team leadership — and has a particular interest in guiding marketers through career development.
Maddy Barber is Marketing Manager at Dizplai, with 8+ years across in-house and agency brand and content marketing. Having managed teams across a wide range of industries, she also mentors marketers on how to climb the career ladder.
What we’ll cover:
Explaining marketing's value to non-marketing managers
Promoting your wins without it feeling like bragging
Translating marketing metrics into stakeholder language
Handling pushback when a manager overrules you
Building visibility that leads to real career growth
You'll leave with practical ways to make sure your work — and your value — actually gets seen.
